Congregation Anshei Sfard
ANNUAL SHUL EVENTS

Congregation Anshei Sfard's annual events are always well attended since they provide a lot of fun for all age groups.

Annual Dinner Cruise on the Ohio River
Every year, Congregation Anshei Sfard rents a cruise ship with a captain and crew. We cruise along the Ohio River for a leisurely two hours, enjoying the sun and scenic views. A delicious Kosher dinner is included.

Yom Kippur Break-Fast
Understanding that its members are very hungry and tired by the timeYom Kippur services are over, Congregation Anshei Sfard holds a break-fast every year so that no one has to wait to get home to cook and eat. There is usually so much food provided that people rarely feel the need to eat even a morsel by the time they get home.

Simchas Torah Party
Congregation Anshei Sfard's Simchas Torah Party is always a hit. There is traditionally an ice-cream party for the children while adult members participate in a humorous and laid-back bidding auction for donations to the synagogue. Afterwards, members joyously form dancing circles (men and women separate, of course!) and break into song in celebration over the giving of the Torah. Food and drink are provided so everyone has enough energy to celebrate in style!

Lecture Series
Every year a new topic for the Annual Lecture Series is selected. Several speakers from different disciplines speak on the selected topic over the course of several evenings. The lecture series gives members and their guests an opportunity to listen to different viewpoints on relevant issues and then to discuss the issues. Topics that have been selected in the past include "The Holocaust" and "Love and Relationships."

Chanukah Party
Every year Congregation Anshei Sfard holds a Chanukah Party. Members always enjoy cooking and eating potato latkes, in addition to many other scrumptuous foods.

Picnic
Every summer, Congregation Anshei Sfard plans a picnic complete with hot dogs and hamburgers, grilled chicken, potato salad and cole slaw, corn on the cob, watermelon, cake and more. Members have fun socializing while Bar-B-Qing.

"AFTER SHUL CLUB" SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Congregation Anshei Sfard has traditionally had an active Sisterhood and Men's Club. Recently, both of these groups decided to merge together to form a new and improved club that is open to all members, male and female. A "name-the-new-club" contest was held in 1998 at one of the Shul dinners. After voting on the many creative entries, the "After Shul Club" was born! The After Shul Club sponsors many fun social and cultural events above and beyond the regular annual events of the Synagogue. The activities provide yet another forum for members and guests to socialize with each other outside of Synagogue.

OUR SOFTBALL TEAM
Congregation Anshei Sfard is extremely proud of our winning softball team. Every Spring, we compete against other community softball teams. Our team is comprised of players of all ages. Though competitive, the team's main objective is to have fun and maintain a high level of comraderie. This past season, the team was quite successful, taking second place (out of six teams) and defeating our top rival. As always, all of the team's younger and older players gave great performances during the season. Our softball games are not just for the players on the team; entire families come out to cheer the team and offer their encouragement. Our games are a very enjoyable social activity for all members. Games are held on Tuesday evenings.
